Four tips to make your mark in the business world

The business world is as cruel as it can be.  Entrepreneurs who are new to the game might find themselves getting tired from the get-go especially when they are not equipped with the right skills and strategies to make it big in the business world.  Business leaders who have made their mark have these tips to share to aspiring entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurs, regardless of their credentials, must always be conscious of the way they receive and process information.  Thinking critically is vital to make it big in the industry.  Weighing every idea and questioning assumptions, claims, and viewpoints rather than just accepting them is regarded as critical thinking.  A fundamental aspect of making smart decisions, critical thinking is the key to being effective at just about any task.

Having focus and discipline and knowing how and when to shut off noise that isn’t helping with the development of a project are other traits aspiring entrepreneurs need to master.  Instead of trying to do everything and not producing excellent results,  focus on one task and excel at it.  Be disciplined when it comes to meeting deadlines and producing great work for every project; it will never go unnoticed.

Get things done.  Instead of setting unrealistic goals, have the patience to start small, while working with a team that’s committed.  Motivate team members to achieve daily realistic goals to boost their morale into achieving bigger company goals together.  Carry the competitive spirit and work on being better than the previous best.  Innovation begins when an entrepreneur sees an opportunity to improve an existing product.

Ditch the gym: Top inexpensive ways to stay fit

In staying healthy and fit, there are two potential issues: time and cost.  Chief executives are more likely to run into problems with the former, while those who are working within a budget might have difficulties with the latter.  Here are some tips and advice to trim the excess pounds or achieve six-pack abs without using the latest high-tech machines or having to maintain a gym membership.

Walking for at least 30 minutes a day never goes out of style and in fact helps one lose weight, control blood sugar, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and manage stress.  For this, however, one likely needs good walking shoes, often a worthy investment and can be used until they’re worn to death.

Maximize those free fitness apps

It’s a wellness manic world we’re living in, and part of it is the deluge of free fitness apps that can help one work out and track his progress properly.  Apps like 7 Minute Workout or those dedicated to yoga, Pilates, or high-intensity interval training are wonderful for squeezing in quick sessions at home.

Check out those community classes

One’s local yoga studio or fitness center is likely offering free sessions once or twice a week.  They may not be free, sure, but they are likely to be significantly cheaper than regular sessions.  Nonprofit meditation organizations are also a great place to explore.

Play ‘free’ sports

Most sports can be quite costly with the needed equipment, lessons, and facilities.  But lots of councils as well as universities in one’s locality offer free facilities, such as a tennis court, a swimming pool, or a field for a game of football.  Check out what’s available!

Do the Cavaliers still need Kyle Korver?

In the aftermath of LeBron’s departure, the Cavaliers are still left with a solid bunch of talents, bolstered by the arrival of promising new point guard Collin Sexton.  In fact, the Cavs have good depth in the guard position, especially with Jordan Clarkson, Isaiah Taylor, and George Hill in the roster.  Interestingly, these are all point guards who can shoot and bring the ball down.

In other words, there’s no problem with offense-generation, (the top option come next season will most likely be Kevin Love).  The Cavs also have an abundance of offense-minded players in the small forward rotation: Rodney Hood, J.R. Smith, Cedi Osman, Sam Dekker, and David Nwaba.  Of course, there’s the sharpshooter Kyle Korver in there, too.

The situation in Cleveland is the leftover of the failed experiment of surrounding James with shooters.  The team enters November with barely any effective big man after Love and Larry Nance Jr.  Channing Frye is getting on, and its only center Ante Zizic is untested.  Many experts are now saying that it might be best if Cleveland does away with some of its offensive options.

Trading Korver, in particular, seems to be a good move, as a lot of teams will have better use of his skill as a spot-up shooter.  And this should gain the Cavs great value now, while Korver is still not that old.  What’s more pertinent is for the team to focus on its suspect defensive system, a dimension in which Korver’s brand of play will be of less importance.

What Are The Primary Roles Of a CFO?

There are some notable top brass executive seats in a corporate structure, their choices and decisions able to impact the company as a whole. One such role is the chief financial officer or CFO. What are the primary roles of a CFO?

CEOs are focused on forward-facing directions while CFOs are more attuned to controllership duties that are backward-looking. The CFO’s responsibilities are to represent and accurately report the company’s financial information to their internal and external publics. This includes shareholders, analysts, creditors, and employees. Based on the CFOs analysis and report, the company may adjust its policies or reward its employees with bonuses.

Treasury duties are also a top concern for CFOs. It’s their role to figure out the best way to invest the company’s funds. This can range from the acquisition of new equipment, expanding to other areas, opening new businesses, or even shutting down departments that are not profitable.

The CFO also oversees the capital structure of a company. This pertains to the company’s financial situation in terms of debt, equity, and internal financing, and how this is communicated to their publics.

Lastly, the biggest and most noteworthy role of a CFO is economic strategy and forecasting. This role is integral to a company’s financial future as the executive identifies ways and means for the company to achieve its goals through the most efficient way possible. In terms of economic forecasting, the CFO must review historical trends and the world market to adequately predict market direction to further secure the success of the company.

How Will The Cavaliers Fare Without King James?

Just a few weeks after bowing out to the Warriors in the 2018 NBA Finals, Cleveland is reeling anew, this time from the second departure of its native son, LeBron James. Considered the best player in professional basketball, James was able to bring a much-needed basketball championship to Ohio after decades of failures.

The loss of LeBron will obviously have a huge impact on the Cavaliers’ chances of returning to the finals next season. The Cavs had already struggled with a ragtag supporting cast on its road to the biggest stage of pro basketball, and without its leader, teams like the 76ers and the Celtics are the new favorites to top the Eastern Conference next year.

But is this really the end of the Cavaliers’ reign? Sadly, unless the team finds ways to elevate the defense of its many young players and secure another star player to work alongside Kevin Love, this is most likely the case. There’s just too much talent and established teamwork in the other teams in the East. It will be very difficult to get past even the Raptors, the Pacers, and the Bucks, assuming the Cavs can even reach the 2019 playoffs.

What the Cavs can bank on is championship experience. They’ve been in the Finals for four consecutive seasons, and that sure counts a lot especially in high-pressure situations. But for this to happen, the team must now change how it plays and rely more on ball distribution, grit, hustle. And, again, recommit to defense.

How Huge Was J.R. Smith’s Mistake?

If there was one play that stood out from the 2017-2018 NBA Finals, it would be without question, J.R. Smith’s blunder in the dying seconds of game one regulation. For those who live under a rock and haven’t heard about it, here’s how it unfolded. The Cavs were down one, and George Hill was fouled by Klay Thompson below the basket. Hill hit the first free throw tying the game, but missed the second. Smith came up with a spectacular offensive rebound with four seconds left in the game. Instead of going for a shot in the paint, he dribbled it out past the three-point line.

How huge was that mistake? It may be bigger than you think and it may have cost the Cavs more than just one game.

First, that blunder woke up the Warriors. Before overtime, the Warriors played listlessly and were overconfident throughout game one. The Dubs never again slept throughout the finals.

Second and perhaps more importantly, Smith’s blunder could’ve killed any hopes of Lebron James staying in Cleveland. Think about it. James gave everything and the kitchen sink to take the Cavs to within 4 seconds of victory over the defending champs. And there’ his epic playoff performance. James had been vocal about needing support – and then J.R. Smith happened.

Yes. That was a pretty huge mistake.

Running spots and urban trails to try in Cleveland

Located in northeastern Ohio on Lake Erie’s southern shore, Cleveland has plenty of urban spots and green spaces to offer – a combination that attracts runners, especially those who want easy access from downtown. A great start would the well restored Lake Erie and Cuyahoga River waterfronts, which incorporate a 15-mile bike path as well as a 60-mile stretch of parks known as the “Emerald Necklace.”

Ohio and Erie Canalway Towpath Trail: It’s 85 miles of paved trails in its green glory. Access the Towpath at any of the more than 50 trailheads throughout Northeast Ohio.

Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway: Get on this path spanning the entire length of the 17-mile Lake Erie shoreline from the city’s eastern border with Euclid to the western border with Lakewood. Enjoy on-street and off-road paths highlighted by traditional neighborhoods along with stately old homes.

Edgewater Park: Situated on Lake Erie around three miles west of Downtown Cleveland, it boasts of a 900-foot swimming beach, a 200-foot pier with fish swimming along, and running paths that delight one with attractive views of the lake.

Rockefeller Park: The seven-mile trail is ready to take one’s breath away (quite literally) as it takes one along MLK Drive and Superior Avenue, near Case Western Reserve University and all other draws in University Circle, including a café or juice bar here and there for some refreshments.

Pros And Cons Of Running With Music

There is a lot of clamor in the running world whether or not they should listen to music or not while running. Here are some reasons to put on those earphones or to leave them at home when going out for a run.

There are downsides to just having earphones on while running. Not having a pair that fits perfectly might leave a runner constantly adjusting their pair ever so often.

There’s also an issue of safety when running with music on especially when running in an urban setting. Music blocks surrounding noise and could lead to accidents.

Some runners say they feel more focused on running when all they can hear is the sound of their feet hitting the ground. Others say that they like just hearing their surroundings, especially those who do trail running.

For people who are all for playing music while running, they have valid points as well. Running, especially for beginners, can be painful at specific points. Music is a good distraction and an even greater source of motivation as it makes exercise enjoyable.

Studies have also noted that running with music showed an increase in concentration, lowered the perception of effort, and provided an ongoing stimulus to a runner.

As for safety, keeping the volume to a responsible level is necessary when running outdoors. But when doing so in a safe location like an oval track or a treadmill, then feel free to pump up the jams.
